Renewing Your License
Grace Period:
The FCC provides a two-year grace period after the expiration date of an amateur radio license. During this time, you can renew your license through the FCC Universal Licensing System (ULS) without needing to retake the exam.
Retesting:
If your license has been expired for more than two years, you will need to retake the Technician license exam.
Call Sign:
If you renew within the two-year grace period, you will retain your previous call sign. If you retest after the grace period, you may need to apply for your previous call sign through the FCC's Vanity System if it has not been reissued.
Renewing Online:
You can renew your license online through the FCC's Universal Licensing System (ULS) using your FCC Registration Number (FRN) and password.
Fees:
There is a renewal fee, which is currently $35, for each 10-year license term
